My first few days of unemployment

Well I have officially been unemployed for 3 days and today I had my first interview for a job - not sure if I will get it or if its the right job but it certainly is interesting and it was good to get back into the interviewing groove so quickly.

Jack got student of the week this week - so congratulations went to him from us by way of a drink and cake at the local coffee shop. He is doing incredibly well with this guitar lessons - his teacher seems to think he has a real aptitude for it, so a good start. His piano lessons too are going well, according to Jack but these take place in school hours so I don't know for sure yet :-)

He has a day trip to Tangalooma Island on Monday - to look at the marine environment - lucky him - we havent even been there yet.

I am attending the launch party of this years Brisbane Writers Festival on Friday - I will be volunteering again for it again in September so its nice to do the fun part first before the hard work.

And today is my brothers birthday - so happy birthday - hope you are having a beer or two.

Another statistic

I guess its easier to talk about something if you are part of it but sometimes it would be nicer perhaps if the statistics didnt include you: unemployment rate in Australia went up yesterday by one more.

I knew it was coming, business had been quiet for a long while and I had already updated my CV and started applying for jobs but the irony is today, my normal work from home day - a very expensive double front door is being fitted but it was all booked and made so we couldn't postpone it.

But I have already applied for three jobs today - all very different but all interesting and no need to drive on highway to get to them.

Jack is watching Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets - he is still on vacation - back on Tuesday while I do some work and apply for jobs.

I do feel confident of getting another job with hopefully not too much of a gap between but Jack was due to start guitar and piano lessons next week but how can we justify the expense of both now.....will have to think about that.

So in the meantime I will have time to get those jobs done that I never find time to do; get to drop Jack off and collect him from school and do lots of baking etc - ever the optimist - well whats the point of worrying :-)
